LONDON YOUTH CRICKET

THE first London Youth Games competition of the 2011 calendar year takes place at Harrow Leisure Centre this weekend with the staging of the indoor cricket girls’ qualifiers.

A healthy entry of 28 borough teams will compete in the group stages on Saturday and Sunday for just eight places at next month’s finals, which will be held at Lord’s Cricket Ground, the spiritual home of the sport.

Defending champions Bexley are drawn against Kensington & Chelsea, Newham and Havering in group one.

Last year’s runners-up Bromley and must win group two against Enfield, City of Westminster and Merton if they are to progress.

Greenwich face Brent, Croydon and Southwark in group three, while Lewisham take on Wandsworth, Ealing and Hackney in group seven.

The boys’ qualifiers will be held at Harrow the following weekend and the boys’ and girls’ finals take place at Lord’s on March 6.
